Tapati Choudhury is an artist whose work covers the gamut of painting, drawing, installation and soft sculpture. She has worked extensively with performance art an important figure in KIPAF in Kolkata. Her drawings may be described as fragile phantoms with an ethereal quality. Her drawings are characterised by her versatile flair, delineating from with brusque understatement, exaggerating facial features, imaginatively and texturing the paper base with close, expressionist scribbles and cross-hatching. Her installations are concerned with issues of gender and body, permanence and impermanence, pain and endurance. Tapati studied for her MFA at Syracuse University NY, USA in 2006. She did an MVA and BFA at Rabindra Bharati University Calcutta, W Bangal, Santiniketan, Birbhum. She has had important solo exhibitions at the Spark Contemporary Artspace Syracuse and several group shows at Syracuse and Bengal. She is the recipient of the University Syracuse NY 2005 fellowships.
